White convertible carrying father and son in the short film Legacy

Short Film

Legacy

Our original thirteen-minute short: a father, a son and a classic convertible on one last road together.

Overview

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Legacy began in our own writers' room as a two-hander about inheritance — not money, but habits, phrases and the cars we keep fixing. Made as a studio calling card with festival ambitions, it was shot over four days on desert highways with a non-professional cast found through open auditions.

The visual language stays inside the car: windshields as frames within frames, rear-view mirrors carrying the past literally behind the characters. Our sound team built the entire mix around the engine's voice — it starts, idles and finally rests in step with the story.

The Challenge

Car work on an indie budget: moving-vehicle dialogue, sun continuity across a four-day desert shoot, and a convertible that could not be replaced if it broke. We rehearsed with a stand-in vehicle and shot every driving setup in two golden-hour windows.

The Approach

Restraint everywhere. Locked-off compositions, no score until the final three minutes, and performances directed toward quiet instead of tears — so the ending lands without asking for it.
